Such wonderful feedback from a parent needs sharing!!

“Kids for Kids UK has given Jade a unique opportunity to experience filmmaking first hand and discover new skills. The organization has created a lasting impression on the lives of children from all walks of life and academic ability. The staff are amazing and brilliant at treating each child as an individual and bringing the best out of each and every one of them.

My daughter Jade has an incredible thirst for knowledge and always tries her best in everything she does. Having the opportunity to get involved in filmmaking is so inspiring to her and the other children. Out of all the activities Jade has done Kids for Kids projects remains an all time favourite. It has given her confidence and developed skills she did not know she had. She has a new understanding of the filmmaking process and is able to take an active role in operating the equipment. Being involved in animation has also improved Jade’s literacy work at school by her being able to approach the planning process in a more imaginative way.

As a parent I will be eternally grateful to Kids for Kids UK for the amazing opportunities they have given my daughter. Who knows where this may lead in the future? Where else can children learn these kind of skills, have the use of professional equipment and work with artists who capture their imagination? This can only enhance their secondary education.

Childhood is about memories, our job as parents is to create them. Kids for Kids UK create lasting memories that we as parents are all very proud of. The proof of this is in the finished films to treasure and see for ever.”

The winners of the 2011 KFK UK Film Festival as voted by the Professional Jury are…

KFK UK PROFESSIONAL JURY WINNERS

6 – 12 YEARS

LIVE ACTION

3005 by Creative Arts East and Robert Kett Junior School

The jury thought this is a very polished and well-made film and a stark and interested take on the Sci-Fi genre. The young lead actors are great in their roles and there is a fantastic depiction of a haunting atmosphere with startling imagery such as the fog and the child wearing a gasmask.

ANIMATION

THE VERY GRUMPY GIRL by Asher Williams

The jury were all agreed that ‘The Very Grumpy Girl’ should win the Best Animation. It is a really funny film, well-executed using simple animation techniques that are perfect for the story. This film will hopefully stop people from being grumpy!

1 MINUTE FILM

SERIOUSLY BAD LUCK by Jacob Crow

The comic timing and creative use of Lego made ‘Seriously Bad Luck’ an obvious winner and had us all in stitches. It was well edited and clearly demonstrated not only how animation gives us the means to do things we can’t in real life, like re-attach our legs, but how funny it can be

GRAND PRIZE

I WISH I WENT TO ECUADOR by David Bunting and Bricknell Primary School

There were several contributing factors that made this film stand out from the rest in its category. The level of detail in the set design and the clever use of materials created a fantastic landscape with lots of depth. This combined with the imaginative use of the camera to really get down into the world made the viewing of the film feel like a really immersive experience. Most importantly the overall environmental message was handled very intelligently without it feeling like you were being lectured to, more like you were part of a discussion.

13 -19 YEARS

LIVE ACTION

WITNESS by Alfie Barker

The jury agreed that this was a clever yet simple idea really well executed, with a very cute dog to top it off. Clever and evocative use of sound with the radio commentary and well edited to put together the performance from the dog. Great solo effort and memorable story told in just a few minutes of screen time.

ANIMATION

WALLMATION – POV by Suited and Booted Studios

Wall-Mation POV is a hugely imaginative film containing scene after scene of fantastic animation. The varied style and content transition beautifully from one location to another. It’s clear that an amazing amount of work and dedication went into making this. The relentless visual feast and epic undertaking of animating this film made it a clear winner.

1 MINUTE FILM

DREAM UP A REALITY by Will Freeman

This film, with its great use of visuals and narration, captured the attention of all the Jury; the sound track was blended perfectly. The use of close-ups as the film began were used to great effect, giving the viewer an instant empathy with the subject. The montage of visuals with clever use of environments were edited together with precision. Congratulations.

GRAND PRIZE

WALLMATION – POV by Suited and Booted Studios

The jury agreed to award the Grand to Wall-Mation POV for several reasons. This is a fantastic piece of animation, skillfully planned and filmed, with some brilliantly witty sequences which flow from shot to shot. We were really impressed with the large number of young people who had been involved in creating the work, and at the level of artistic skill and commitment to what is a time-consuming process. Well done to all involved.

Winning films will be posted on You Tube in the next week.
